OLDHAM "should not be any worse off" as a cultural grant scheme closes and is replaced with a new scheme, cabinet members confirmed.

Cabinet members approved the closure of the Greater Manchester-wide Section 48 AGMA grant scheme and the establishment of a new programme for culture under the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in 2018/19.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge said: "These are something we have had for a long time and they particularly relate to cultural programmes but my understanding is that they are going to be replaced by an alternative method of funding."

She added that the criteria and bidding process will be made a bit clearer.

"We shouldn't be any worse off and hopefully we would be better off I think," Cllr Brownridge continued.

"My only point to bear in mind is to be certain that Oldham Coliseum doesn't end up disadvantaged under this new system but there is nothing in the format to suggest that is going to happen."
