A FIRE started outside a home after an electrical fuse overheated.
The occupant of the house in Denshaw Road called the fire service after seeing flames coming from the electrical unit.
Firefighters from Oldham remained at the scene for more than three hours, using a dry powder fire extinguisher and then a hose reel.
They waited at the property between Delph and Denshaw until officers from Electricity North West arrived.
Watch manager Phil Courtnell said: "It was obvious when we arrived that the supply board was on fire. There was a lot of smoke.
"The meter could not hold the electrical current coming in from an external supply.
"Thankfully the unit was outside."
The fire crew warned residents not to surround or house electrical units with flammable materials.
