SILLINESS will sweep the borough in December as Action Oldham Fund's "Dress up Silly for Santa" day returns.

Now in its third year, the fun day on Friday challenges businesses, schools, community groups to put on something silly – from jolly jumpers and reindeer antlers to a full jolly Santa suit and donate £2 to Action Oldham Fund to help good causes in Oldham.

This year Nicola White MBE, Oldham’s own Olympic gold medallist is promoting the campaign.

She said: “I love Oldham, and want to see it change for the better, for just £2 this event is a fun way to raise money for local community and voluntary groups.”

Clare Taylor, Fund Development Coordinator added: “This event is a great way to spread Christmas cheer, while helping local good causes to make a difference to vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals, children and young people.

"Last year we raised £1,500 thanks to the 30 businesses, groups and schools that joined in.

"This year we are aiming to raise even more are looking for over 50 organisations to get on board.”

Every business, school or group that registers is sent a fundraising pack including a badge to award for the Best Dressed #SillySanta in the organisation.

The overall winner for 2017 is chosen from social media shares with last year's first prize won by Barbara Dale and Nicola Sweatman from Oasis Academy.

There is also an additional category for animals, so don't forget those pet-elfie-selfies.
