The Springhead school team - made up of youngsters who play for Springhead AFC juniors and 3D Dynamos, in Delph - is now through to the regional finals at Man Utd's Carrington Training Complex to be held in June.

Sports coach and teaching assistant Paul Shea, who is in charge of training along with Year 3 teacher Tommy Bunn, said: "We really didn't expect them to do so well. They were amazing right from the first game and throughout the competition, in fact they played like Year 6 children.

"Because they are in three different classes these children don't normally play together but they worked well together on the day.

"After this I'm seeing the potential of maybe even winning the regional finals. I think we have a very good chance."
