Blackpool Comes to Oldham funfair organisers have cancelled their promotion for today's event as part of action following a large fight.

The annual Hollinwood-based fairground will not offer 'Bring a Friend' Thursday today, a promotion where 'you pay and your friend rides free'.

Funfair organisers said: "Following discussion with Greater Manchester Police we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel our bring a friend Thursday promotion.

"The fair will be open as normal between 1pm and 9pm every day, until Sunday, February 25, with session times 1pm until 5pm and 5pm until 9pm."

The decision comes after a brawl broke out at the fair last Thursday night.

A group of around 20 men, aged between 17 and 20, were involved in a confrontation with security staff after a dispute about accessing rides.

The group had allegedly attended from outside the area, attracted by the popular 'Bring a Friend' promotion.

In a previous statement, event organisers said it was their 'price busting Bring a Friend promotion' that drew the group from outside the area.

Greater Manchester Police previously said that security will be increased at the event, and particularly at the next promotion day event tonight (February 22).

The fair, accessible from Hollinwood Avenue and Manchester Road, is in the borough until Sunday (February 25).
