THE Royal Oldham Hospital will host a talk on sepsis to educate people about the ‘silent killer’.

Residents can find out more about the potentially life-threatening condition at the free talk hosted by The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Doctors will provide an update on the importance, recognition and treatment of sepsis, as well as explaining the symptoms and available treatments.

Dr Umal Ghori, who will be giving the talk, said: "Sepsis is a unique disease in that it does not differentiate between age, sex, race, religion, or social class, and kills all alike.

"The talk will be informative with the opportunity to ask questions, in the hope that we can help you to recognise symptoms, so together we can save lives."

Sepsis is a serious condition which can arise when the body generates an aggravated response to an infection.

Common symptoms include fever, increased heart rate, shallow or increased breathing and confusion.

The sepsis talk is part of the 'Medicine for Members' series hosted by the trust.

The talk will be held Thursday, March 22, between 2pm and 3pm at the Education Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Road, Oldham.
