A CAR was on fire in Werneth putting a nearby mosque "in jeopardy", according to fire crews.
The vehicle, understood to be a BMW, had been stripped of "everything of value" and set on fire in Cambridge Street, at land next to Jamia Ghausia Mosque.
Fire crews from Hollins were called to the scene at 9.30pm last night (March 28).
Crew manager John Stanley said: "The car had been stripped of everything of value and the remains had been completely burnt up on some wasteland.
"The carcass of the vehicle was well alight when we got there, and situated close to a mosque.
"It was putting the building in jeopardy.
"There were lots of people in the area as well. We were called by members of the community."
