THE owners of Albion Farm Shop and Cafe, in Delph, were fined after lamb mince bought on the premises was found to contain beef.

A sample purchased by Oldham Council environmental health inspectors in March last year was found to be 20 per cent cow DNA during analysis.

The Hirst Family Trading Company Ltd pleaded guilty to an offence under the Food Safety Act 1990 at Tameside Magistrates Court and was fined £1,000 with a £100 victim surcharge and £700 costs.

LIAM ANTHONY MERRITT, aged 31, of Glenridding Close, Oldham, was given a community order with an unpaid work requirement for stealing coping stones to the value of £500 belonging to Greenacres Congregational Church and being in possession of a lock knife. He also had his driving licence endorsed for driving without insurance and was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £85 and £85 costs.

MOHAMMED NASIR, aged 42, of Vincent Avenue, Oldham, was discharged conditionally for 18 months for two charges of possession of a class A drug. He was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £20 and £85 costs.

ROBERT GRONTKOWSKI, aged 42, of St Clements Court, Oldham, was committed to prison for 14 weeks suspended for 12 months for assaulting by beating. He was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £115 and £150 costs.

SAMANTHA EDGAR, aged 33, of Keswick Avenue, Oldham, was given a community order and ordered to pay a total of £250 compensation for racially aggravated assault by beating, two counts of criminal damage, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and two counts of racially aggravated assault. She was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £85 and £100 costs.

RAYMOND FAIRHURST, aged 67, of Wildmoor Avenue, Holt, was committed to prison for four weeks suspended for 12 months for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. He was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £115 and £85 costs.

RYAN ASTLEY, aged 38, of Holly Lane, Hollins, was given a community order and a restraining order for assault by beating, theft and criminal damage. He was ordered to pay £100 compensation, a surcharge to fund victim services of £85 and £85 costs.
