CHRISTOPHER Standish is "homing" in on the finishing line of the world famous London Marathon for his favourite cause.

The regeneration and place manager at Regenda Homes will be tackling the 26-miler on Sunday in support of the Action Oldham Fund which supports local community, voluntary and faith groups throughout the borough with grants.

Chris has supported and fundraised for the organisation since it started almost five years ago, running the Oldham Half Marathon, one of the toughest in the UK.

But Chris has decided to challenge himself further and has been in serious training for the gruelling race.

“It’s a privilege to raise some more funding for the Action Oldham Fund," said Chris.

"They do an amazing job locally, helping people to realise their potential and overcome their barriers.

"I have taken on a few other shorter runs in aid of Action Oldham before but this will be my biggest challenge yet.

"I'm not one for training plans and programmes. I run for the love of it and when I have time.

"I managed to get up to Northumberland and run along the coastal path a month ago. More recently, my training has been about hill reps on the fells, a couple of hilly road 10k's and smashing my knee up!”

Regenda Homes, Keepmoat Homes, M&Y Maintenance & Construction and Oldham Rugby League Football Club are supporting Chris with business sponsorship and will have their logos on Chris’ marathon T-shirt.

They've all donated significant amounts to support his cause.
