LOAN striker Duckens Nazon was the Latics hero on Saturday after his second-half double rescued a point at relegation rivals AFC Wimbledon.

But the 24-year-old Haitian-born front man was left wanting more after missing a late chance to claim his hat-trick.

Nazon’s header was deflected narrowly wide after strikes on 50 and 74 minutes cancelled out efforts from the Dons’ Jonathan Meades and Joe Piggot.

A third goal for the Championship forward would have surely handed Oldham all three points and given them a massive boost in their battle for League One survival.

As it was, Richie Wellens’ men missed the chance to leapfrog their hosts and remained just one place and one point above the drop zone going into Tuesday night’s match at home to Southend United.

“I really enjoyed the game because I scored twice and I’m happy but I’m also disappointed because I could have scored another one at the end,” said Nazon, who took his tally to four goals in four matches – six in 13 appearances since swapping Molineux for Boundary Park in January.

“I want more. I’m a striker, I came here to score goals and help Oldham Athletic stay in League One and that’s the most important thing.”

Nazon’s determination epitomised the Latics’ spirited display in an encounter that meant so much to both sides.

His goals also stretched Oldham’s unbeaten run to six matches, but their inability to convert a promising performance into all three points in what was their fifth successive draw clearly rankled the striker.

But it was a case of ‘c’est la vie’ for the Paris-born forward, who was already looking forward to Tuesday night’s game against the Shrimpers. and another massive relegation dogfight against Doncaster at Boundary Park on Saturday.

“I think we showed a great attitude because we were one goal down, then came back, then went down again close to the end of the game, then we came back again so a point is a point,” he said, pleased to give the 400 travelling supporters at the Kingsmeadow something to take back up north.

“Thank you to the fans that came today because it’s really far and we are going to give the maximum for you to stay in League One.

“These next two games, we need four points minimum.

“The lads are ready and we are going to give our maximum and more to get the points.”
