WORLD champion whistler David Morris is something of a Super Trouper after being drafted in to provide a tuneful addition to the new Mamma Mia movie.

David, from Dobcross - who was crowned champ at the International Whistling Convention in Louisburg, North Carolina, in 2003, and has been called upon for numerous films, adverts and TV appearances over the years - said he had no idea he was recording for the sequel to the 2008 film until he arrived at the studios in London.

He was even more blown away to meet Abba songwriting legend Benny Andersson - currently hitting the headlines after it was announced Abba are to re-unite - who was directing the recording at the Air Studios for the forth-coming Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again, due out in July and starring Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Cher.

“I had no idea which film it was until I arrived and was told that Benny Andersson of Abba was there overseeing the music production,” said David.

“It was a great thrill to meet him having been an Abba fan over the years.”

“I provided a musical link between different scenes. Benny and music director Anne Dudley agreed it was beautiful - just what they wanted. In fact Benny told me, ‘That was tops David’!”

“It’s brilliant to be asked to do this and to be thought of in that way.”

Anne, who is also the film’s composer, wrote the music for the TSB Bank TV ad campaign on which David whistles.

This year is proving to be a busy one for David - who put the whistle in the famous Whistling Guinness Oyster. He is appearing in a concert in Dublin with the RTE Concert Orchestra in the National Theatre.

Later, in July, he is off to the States for two concerts in St Louis, Missouri, as guest soloist in the summer “Proms in the Park series”.
