THERE were some right characters knocking about Oldham Library the weekend – for the biggest yet Comic Con event, where there were legendary superheroes aplenty.

Some 6,000 people attended as guests from the world of comics including artists, writers and publishers appeared alongside novelists and comic writers.

Library and information manager Subnum Hariff-Khan said: “Oldham Comic Con was even bigger and better than last year’s event.

“It was a fantastic day out for families and comic and graphic novel enthusiasts, with more than 70 artists and stallholders present on the day.

“We had a variety of workshops, a cosplay competition as well as a graphic novel launch and exhibition. There was something for everyone to enjoy.”

The event, curated in partnership with Dennis Whittle, is the first free Comic Con to be delivered in a public library.

Mrs Hariff-Khan added: “This year people travelled from as far away as Leicester to see what we had to offer. We’re really pleased with how the event turned out and comments from those who came were great.”
