MP Debbie Abrahams has run a “dementia friends” session at a care home in Springhead.

The Oldham East and Saddleworth MP ran the meeting at Springlees Court for a group of residents keen to learn more about how to help create dementia friendly communities.

Ms Abrahams, who is a trained dementia friend, said: : “It’s always a real delight to visit my friends at Springlees Court and Dunsford Court where the residents and staff are always so welcoming.

“Making Oldham and Saddleworth the most dementia friendly place in the UK is one of my top ten priorities for the constituency and, if Springlees is anything to go by, we’re well on the way to achieving that as everyone there is so keen to be part of the process.”

Adele Jones, manager of Springlees Court, said: “Dementia Friends is a great initiative and it’s very important for everyone to learn more about dementia and the small ways we can all help, it was a great session.

“Creating a dementia friendly environment is something both residents and staff are very keen to achieve so having the chance to discuss the issue with Debbie, in a relaxed and fun session, is really useful and something I’d encourage other organisations to try out."
