THE first ever Oldham Learning Festival is to take place soon.

Organised by Oldham Council and run with Oldham Education Partnership and the Opportunities Area its aim is to highlight the good work being done around the borough to help learning.

The festival will run from Monday, June 25 until Friday, July 6 and will include talks, keynote speeches, workshops, demonstrations, training events, exhibitions and seminars being held across various venues.

It is aimed at school leaders, teachers, governors, professionals, businesses, council officers, third sector, voluntary sector and private business colleagues and, of course children, young people and families.

The five main themes of the festival will focus on leadership, social mobility, reducing disadvantage, supporting mental health and wellbeing for all and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

The first week of the festival offers something for everyone and is packed with inspiring presenters and guests, including Floyd Woodrow (chief executive of Chrysalis Worldwide and Professional Coach) Gavin Oattes (chief executive of Tree of Knowledge), Dame Alison Peacock (Chartered College of Teaching) plus many more.

The second week will be centred on) STEM and the potential opportunities and careers these areas of study could open to you.

There will be a STEM Festival during the week alongside the main events and you’ll get the chance to explore a number fringe events, organised by local organisations and business.

Amanda Chadderton, cabinet member for education and early years, said: “The Oldham Learning Festival will give residents and visitors the opportunity to learn about the work the council and our partners are doing to improve education across the borough.

“But it’s more than just that – it is a chance for everyone who has an interest in our young people succeeding in life to come together and discuss how we can all help to achieve this.

“It promises to be a busy couple of weeks and we hope as many people as possible will join us.”
