A MAN in his 30s has died after police were called to reports staff were threatened at Tesco Express, on Ashton Road, in Oldham, last night.

Officers were called shortly before 10.20pm following a call that threats were being made to staff.

Emergency services were called but the man died soon after.

Tesco say the store remains closed today.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

They said: "Shortly before 10.20pm on Sunday police received a report that threats were being made to staff at Tesco Express on Ashton Road in Oldham.

"Officers attended and further emergency services were requested.

"A short while later, a man in his 30s sadly died at the scene.

"GMP’s professional standards branch, as is routine in such circumstances, have referred the incident to the IOPC."

A tesco spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the tragic incident at our Oldham Express and are assisting police with their enquiries. The store remains closed at this time.”
