THERE were tears of joy and laughter at Age UK Oldham’s George Street Chapel as all the atmosphere of an good old fashioned street party was recreated for the screening of the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The big event was beamed to a 10-foot screen before more than 40 people tucked in to afternoon tea, including cream scones, trifles and an array of cakes, washed down with Pimms and prosecco.

It was an ideal showcase to show off the 200 year old former chapel is the perfect wedding venue, said Age UK Oldham’s marketing manager Annika Dawson.

Vanessa Hamer of Age UK Oldham said: “It was a fantastic day. The caterers were complimented by the guests for providing one of the best afternoon teas they had ever had.

“There was the full range of ages from young children to the elderly. It was quite emotional. There were tears of joy and laughter.”

Her colleague Vicky Lisiecki added said: “It was a great atmosphere. Our objective was to create a street party atmosphere and that’s what we did.

"Opinions on Meghan (Markle's) dress were divided. Some people said it was too plain, but others said she looked absolutely beautiful."
