A NEW, year-long campaign is being launched tomorrow (Tuesday, June 5) to promote and celebrate Oldham’s amazing natural environment.

Launching on World Environment Day – Green Oldham, will showcase the very best in green spaces, wildlife and environmental initiatives.

Focusing on a different theme each month, it will also show off the work of amazing members of the community who are devoting their time to making the area a better place.

It will also help people to find out how to make the most of the fantastic green areas that surround the town; showcasing wildlife walks, fruit picking routes and many more fun activities for all the family.

The campaign launches with the publication of a launch video across all of Oldham Council’s digital platforms. To watch the video now, visit www.facebook.com/iloveoldham or www.twitter.com/oldhamcouncil.

Cllr Abdul Jabbar, deputy leader of Oldham Council, who came up with the idea for the campaign, said: “Oldham has an amazing natural environment and it’s about time we celebrated it.

“We’re bringing together the very best of Oldham’s green spaces, places, people and initiatives all in one place.

“We hope it will help people to make green choices, enjoy days out in Oldham’s fabulous green spaces, enjoy local outdoor events and encourage organisations to make environmentally conscious choices.

“If you’ve got a green initiative to tell us about, all you have to do is tell us using the hashtag #greenoldham.”

A new web page has also been launched – www.oldham.gov.uk/greenoldham - where people can learn about all of Oldham’s green initiatives all in one place.

Each month, the campaign will feature a minimum of two videos on a range of different green themes with opportunities for residents to get involved.

That starts in July when Oldham Council launches “The Big Green Survey” which will ask you to feedback your green priorities to help shape the future work that is done to Oldham’s environment.
