A RECORD 104 local children took part in the second Oldham Junior Triathlon at Failsworth Sports Centre.

Youngsters aged eight to 10 swam 50m, cycled 800m and ran 400m. Those aged 11 to 14 swam 200m, cycled 2,000m and ran 1,200m.

Emily Hyder (first female) and Theo Nutall (first male) came in first to win the eight to 10 year old event, while Lois Davis (first female) and Joshua Doherty (first male) took the 11 to 14 year old title.

A crowd of more than 200 spectators came along to cheer the children on during the activities, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

Kelly Tattersall, community & partnership development officer at OCL, said: “It was a wonderful day from start to finish, proven by the smiles on everyone’s faces and the cheering that could be heard all the way around the course from family and friends."

Mum to two competitors Sharon McCormick added: “My two loved it, it was a very friendly and well organised event.”
