A NEW business opening in Oldham has sourced some of the world’s most exotic fish to bring them back to the town.

Fishman Aquatics, in Yorkshire Street, is run by experts Reece Bloomfield and manager Mike Calnun, who will open their doors to specialist buyers and to beginners wanting to understand more about how to keep the more exotic fish.

The shop, which opens on Tuesday, at 9am, is promising fish from every part of the globe, but unusually customers will be able to immerse themselves in the stress-free world associated with aquariums, which will faithfully reflect the environment the fish live in, with plants, leaves and seed pods, which have been shipped in from various parts of the globe.

Reece said: “We have been able to source many fish and plant species that are unavailable in most other shops across the UK. If you go to most shops, the colours of the fish are washed out, whereas if you come here you will be able to see them as they would look in their natural environment because we feed them the best food and care for the fish as if they were our own.

“When people come in to the new shop, they will be able to sit down in a calm environment and take in a wall of tanks containing all the different species including Corydora catfish originally from South America and other colourful species of fish shipped in from places including Thailand, France and Germany.”

Reece points out how the shop is different to other shops that sell fish by explaining: “Many fish shops are stuck in the 1980s and we feel that by letting customers see how fantastic the fish can look if they recreate their natural habitats, they will want to set up their own.”

He adds: “This is not a run of the mill fish shop, but equally it is suitable for everybody from the specialist fish keepers to beginners and with prices to match their pocket.”
