POLICE investigating the assault of a girl in Stamford Park, Ashton have made four arrests.

They swooped after a video was circulated on social media showing the 13-year-old being assaulted near to the boating lake on Friday (July 13).

The victim seen in the video went to hospital on Sunday with extensive bruising but has since been discharged to recover at home.

Four teenage girls have been arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released under investigation.

GMP’s Tameside Borough chief police officer meanwhile urge people to stop sharing the video online.

Chief Inspector Andy Harty said: “This investigation surrounds a particularly nasty attack that happened in broad daylight, leaving a teenager with no option to defend herself so I’m sure we can all agree we want to get justice for her and her family.

“I cannot urge the importance of people refraining from sharing the video online and speculating about the identity of those in the video - it can be extremely unhelpful and could undermine the investigation.

“In the meantime, I want to thank the public for their patience as we continue with our enquiries into this awful attack and assure them we will provide updates when we can.”
