TWO pictures show the remarkable change in one well-known moorland setting in just six months.

They were taken by keen local walker Iain Dredge, aged 36, a self-employed scuba technician, with his friends Michael Goodwin, Ryan Jenkins and Rob Burton.

Iain took his first picture on February 25, just a few days before the Beast from the East arrived at a location just west of Wimberry (Indians head) head over from Alphin, above Greenfield.

“It was very cold,” Iain recalled. “We knew we were in for a real blow - but never realised just how tough it would be. Temperatures were 15 degrees below and there was six feet of snow.

“The other picture at the same location was taken on July 1 after 30 degree heat and 10ft flames. The landscape has little vegetation and down to bare peat and was still smoking but I'm hopeful it will recover relatively quickly.”
