CREWS from Oldham were among more than 50 firefighters battling a large mill fire in Rochdale on Monday night (August 13).

The alarm was raised at the large premises in Greenfield Lane shortly before 10.35pm.

Houses in the immediate area were evacuated as a precaution and Bury and Rochdale Magistrates’ Court has been opened as a rest centre.

Road closures are also in place on Milkstone Road and Well I’ Th Lane and motorists were advised to avoid the area where possible.

Other local residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed while Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service battled the blaze.

Firefighters from Hollins, Oldham and Chadderton fire stations attended the fire.

There were no reports of injuries.
