CHAMPAGNE corks were popping at Spindles as retailers marked the 25th anniversary of Oldham town centre shopping complex on Saturday.

Centre manager Mike Flanagan was joined by Debenhams staff who had worked at the store since it opened in 1993.

He presented them with bubbly, chocolates and a certificate as a token of the achievement.

A cake was taken up to the mall space outside Waterstones where it was shared with the Spindles shoppers.

Visitors had the opportunity to wish Spindles all the best on one their birthday cards. One card will be selected at random and the lucky customer will be presented with a £100 Debenhams voucher.

Younger guests were entertained by Shopping Susie who was joined by face painters, balloons modellers, a cake decorating workshop and an art area.

Mike said: “It’s been a great day and a fitting way to celebrate 25 years of the Spindles. We would like to thank all the centre staff, the retailers here and our customers for their ongoing loyalty and support. We’re looking forward to the next 25 years.”
