THE manager of a nightclub in Oldham is thrilled after an ‘epic’ weekend with record numbers of revellers coming through its doors.

There was a full house at Liquid and Envy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The club on Retiro Street opened for the first time since the start of the pandemic on the stroke of midnight on July 18, but this was the first full weekend of opening since restrictions on nightlife were lifted.

And Terry Bruce, the general manager of Liquid and Envy, is positive about the response from Oldham’s clubbers.

He said: “It was an amazing week for Liquid and Envy, with a full house on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.”

Terry said an appearance by LED mask-wearing DJ and producer PIX3L KID was one of the highlights of the weekend, going down ‘a storm’.

He said: “It was so epic that we had a full house at closing time, as nearly everyone stayed until the lights came on and the music went off.

“A truly memorable weekend and a massive start back for clubbing in Oldham.”

A post on the club’s Facebook also struck a positive note, thanking clubbers for their ‘amazing’ support.

It said: “After a long, hard, gruelling 16 months, we’ve finally got our turn.

“We’ve seen record breaking numbers like never before.

“From all the team at Liquid and Envy, thank you for your amazing support.

“We love every single one of you.”

At the moment, rules in England ask clubbers to show proof of immunity, vaccination or a negative test result as a condition of entry to clubs.

However, these rules are set to change in September, as clubbers and other visitors to crowded places like sporting venues might be asked to show proof of full vaccination only, or a so-called ‘vaccine passport’.

The change was announced by a self-isolating Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a Downing Street press conference last week, on the same day as restrictions on nightlife were lifted.

Peter Marks, chief executive of REKOM UK, which own’s Liquid and Envy, expressed frustration with the sudden change.

“To say we’re disappointed by the Government’s u-turn is an understatement,” he said.

“We’re no more than a political football."
