A church in Royton will open every day as a free 'warm bank' for residents as fears mount residents can't afford to keep warm amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The Trinity Methodist Church on Radcliffe Street has entered into a partnership with Oldham Council to create a warm space for vulnerable residents.

The space will be free for all to enter from 10am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, and will be operated jointly by the church and council.

Staff from members of Oldham Council's Community Engagement Team alongside members of the Methodist Church will run the warm bank as well as various agencies to offer support to those with specific needs.

Guests will be offered free tea, coffee and snacks and will be allowed to stay for as long as they wish.

A spokesperson for the church said: "Families are welcome.

"There is no target demographic - we are open and welcoming to anyone and everyone who wishes to come in.

"A warm welcome awaits - come on in and stay awhile."

The church is the latest to sign up to the 'warm bank' scheme which comes as part of Oldham Council's £3m commitment to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

Oldham Library is also being transformed into a place where residents, who may not be able to afford to put the heating on in their homes, can get warm.
