We visited the new cafe at Billingtons.

Billingtons’ new ‘coffee lounge’ has now fully opened to the public, serving up breakfasts, sandwiches, ciabattas, and salads.

As well as savoury food, barista coffee, tea, and fresh cakes are also available from the Ascroft Street location.

Lighter snacks such as chocolate bars and crisps are also available.

A fresh spring menu is set to come in the next few weeks.

A cup of coffee and a slice of cake is available for £6.50, or a bowl of soup and a sandwich is available for £11.95.

Alcohol is even available from the bar, if you’d like to try something harder to drink.

The cafe, located on the building’s first floor, is fully accessible – with a ramp and lift available at the front entrance, next to the stairs.

Customers are even allowed to bring their pet pooches inside – with a sign on the door saying that well-behaved dogs are allowed.

Popular Oldham baker Jason Luker, who owns the wholesale bakery ‘The Eatery’ can now be found honing his craft at Billingtons.

Having won nine Great Taste Awards, Jason is hoping for a tenth this year.

Speaking to The Oldham Times, Jason said: “The first award we won was for our mince pies in 2016, and then we entered our shortbreads the year after, so the little complementary biscuits that you get with your hot drinks, they’re our award.

“Since then we’ve got another seven awards, so we have nine Great Taste awards now.”

Jason said his favourite dessert on offer is the After Eight tart, adding: “I like the After Eight ones because they remind me of mint Viscounts.

“My nana always used to give us mint Viscounts when we went round. Then we had the Bailey’s salted caramel tart, that was another award we got – so the tarts are my favourite at the moment.”

We tried the After Eight tart – and it lived up to the hype.

The tart cost £3.90, and it definitely felt worth the price.

As you eat, you’re attended to well by staff, who bring food over and clear the table for you.

The inside of Billingtons has been renovated beautifully, with furnishings looking fresh and stylish.

Overall, the new Billingtons coffee lounge is definitely worth the trip.
