A 33-year-old man has tragically been found dead in a car in Halliwell.

Police were called to Whitchurch Gardens, just off Halliwell Road, on Wednesday at around 6.15pm where there were concerns for the welfare of a man in a car.

Numerous police cars and an ambulance service were in attendance with the area cordoned off.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said: “At approximately 6.15pm on Wednesday, May 31, officers from GMP received calls regarding concern for welfare of a man at Whitchurch Gardens in Bolton.

“On arrival, a 33-year-old man was found sadly deceased in a vehicle.

“Next of kin have been informed and cause of death is yet to be determined with a Home Office post-mortem.”

The news shocked the community and Labour Cllr Safwaan Patel of the Halliwell ward, reminded people to be respectful among the circumstances.

He wrote on Facebook: “We are extremely saddened to hear about the incident on Halliwell Road today.

“Our condolences to the family, we are praying for them at this difficult time.

“We ask that everyone respects the family's privacy and not spread any messages or rumours.

“We are here if anybody wants to reach out to us about this incident or any other concerns.”

A passer-by described seeing police cars surround the area on Halliwell Road to Whitchurch Gardens and said it was a shock that a young man had lost his life.

They said: “It is very sad and shocking to see and hear about this.

“There were lots of police cars on Halliwell Road and I was wondering what had happened.

“I asked around and someone told me and I just thought how horrible it was for the family.”
