A popular cafe in Saddleworth has announced it has been given the green light to open as a bar in the evenings.

The Hidden Garden cafe on High Street, Uppermill, which sits in a concealed garden spot by the canal, has revealed it has been granted a licence extension.

This means the cafe will now be able to operate as a bar in the evenings, up until 9pm, throughout the rest of the summer.

Also included in the announcement was a promise of a drinks menu and bar snacks as it continues to provide food from its "amazing street food vendors" that it books in.

The welcome news comes as bosses of the small family-run business said they have been "a bit bloody down in the dumps" as "people can't behave".

Last month, the cafe claimed a group of teenagers trespassed on the premises.

A group of up to eight young people posted images of their offending on social media, which included them lounging on the cafe's furniture out of hours.

The incident occurred just days after Hidden Garden issued a public notice about a rise in "dine and dash" customers.

It said customers were ordering food "and then leaving without paying" and that the problem was "starting to be a regular occurrence".
