The construction of more than 20 homes on land near Saddleworth Moor is set to get underway in the coming months.

Final planning approval has been given for 23 detached homes on land off Haven Lane in Moorside at a cost of £7m.

Cube Homes, the property developers behind the project, has announced that work at Weaver’s Croft, will start “later this summer” with the first buyers expected to move in by Spring 2024. The houses will have a starting price of £340,000.

The development situated on a 2.3 acre site close to Saddleworth Moors and named after a cotton mill that occupied land close by, will include a range of three and four-bedrooms designed to “blend in with the rural surroundings”. Many of the homes will have panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

There will be a large public green area at the site to provide a space for children to play and the community to meet and additional trees will be planted. A drystone wall entrance is also being built.

Christopher Heath, managing director for Cube Homes, said the development will help plug the shortage of new homes in the borough.

He said: “There is a shortage of new homes in the area, which has made it difficult for local people to take a first step on the housing ladder as well as putting pressure on the rental sector.

“Weaver’s Croft will offer an opportunity for first-time buyers who want to stay in the Oldham area as well as for young families who need more space with great access to the countryside.

“It’s a lovely peaceful spot where you can watch deer, horses, and other wildlife roaming in the fields whilst all local amenities are close by.”

Last year, Cube Homes won Boutique Housing Development of the Year at Insider’s North West Residential Property Awards for its Holcombe View development in Whitefield, Bury.
