A family from Oldham have given their home its annual makeover as the locally renowned "Christmas house" is back for the 10th year in a row.

Mark and Zoe Ward, and their two children, Ellie and Esmai, weathered the pouring rain to bring some festive cheer to their street on Fitton Hill by decorating and lighting up their home for the season.

A snowman, Santa Claus, penguins, Father Christmas's nine reindeer, candy canes, elves, wreaths, garlands and an abundance of lights hug the family's garden and home.

Mr Ward said it took the family four days of graft to bring their scene to life and create a display that is "bigger and better" than ever before.

He added: "We're spreading our Christmas cheer again and we would love everyone to see it to light up their faces.

"We have been adding little bits every year and now it's this size.

"All the children love it and they get all excited for us to put them up.

"We want to spread the cheer for the local community and give everyone the chance to light up children's faces in these hard times."

The father of two said it took a full family effort to put the masterpiece together but said it is "all worth it" to see people "standing outside in amazement".

The sheer amount of decorations means the family have had to built a 16ft shed to store it all, but show no signs of slowing down in future years to come.

Mr Ward added: "I've asked the children to carry on the tradition once we get too old and they accepted.

"They love it.

"It's never too early to celebrate. It's our favourite time of year and no matter how hard life gets, it's about making people smile and treasuring those memories."

Word on the festively decked home has already spread throughout Oldham with many taking to social media to praise the Wards for their efforts.

A woman wrote: "My children used to love having a drive around to any area we knew had houses lit up like this when they were young. This sort of thing creates so much happiness for others."

Others described the display as "amazing" and "brilliant" and said they often look forward to seeing what the family bring out every year.

A mother said the home gives her daughters "something to look forward to seeing every year".

Another man added: "Love it, brightening the community. Should be proud."

A third comment read: "Well done to this family. Bit of something nice for a change."

"It instantly makes me feel happy", another wrote.
