Alex Batty is set to return home to Oldham today, Saturday, and be reunited with his grandmother - six years on from his disappearance.

The 17-year-old will fly to London from Toulouse in the "late afternoon", according to Toulouse prosecutor magistrate Antoine Leroy, before travelling up to Manchester.

The teenager will be returned to his grandmother, and guardian, Susan Caruana - who has not seen him since he left the country to "holiday" in Spain aged 11.

For the last six years, he has lived a "nomadic" life in a "spiritual community", never staying more than several months in the place, according to reports in France.

Alex was found in the middle of the night by a delivery driver after he had escaped and was walking along a road for four days, the deputy prosecutor had said at a press conference on Friday evening.

It was also reported that the teen is in good health and does not appear to have been abused in the years since his abduction.

His mother, Melanie Batty, who took him on holiday with his grandfather David Batty in September 2017, has yet to be found and could be in Finland, Mr Leroy believes.
