An ice cream parlour and bistro in Saddleworth has announced its Easter menu is back - including its hotly anticipated 'decadent' drink.

Grandpa Greene's luxury ice cream parlour has two successful venues to its name, its first canalside cafe that was set up on Ward Lane in Diggle and its more recent bistro on Wade Row in Uppermill.

The Saddleworth company dates back more than 100 years as Grandpa Greene started making his own ice cream using a churn in the backyard of his corner shop in Salford.

The business has kept its recipes and legacy alive, and today offers a range of desserts and delicacies for those with a sweet tooth.

During lockdown and at the peak of the pandemic, GG's partnered with Slattery, a patisserie and chocolatier in Whitefield, to launch its award-winning decadent Easter egg hot chocolate.

Last year, the parlour expanded even further by adding a white chocolate Easter egg to the menu, in addition to its "beloved" Mini Eggs range which includes pancakes, waffles, milkshakes, sundaes and a luxury Mini Egg ice cream.

I went along to the parlour last year to see what all the fuss was about and found that while it was "rammed from wall to igloo" with many customers eager to try out the Easter menu, me and my guest had a delightful time tucking in to our sandwiches and treats by the scenic view of the canal.

The Easter egg hot chocolate was a particular highlight for me.

I found it was generously stuffed with whipped cream, marshmallows and Mini eggs, plus it was topped with a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

The Easter egg itself sits suspended over a glass and pouring the jug of hot chocolate over the egg sends an avalanche of Minni eggs into the mug where a thick, chocolatey lava forms.

I thoroughly enjoyed gorging on the "delightfully decadent" drink and said it was unlike anything I'd ever had before.

The hotly anticipated menu is back already and is available for dining in and taking out at both its Diggle and Uppermill sites all through to the Easter holidays.
