An Oldham man has been ranked the joint-second most famous person in the world.

While it is not a popularity contest, Phillip Schofield is more well known than the late Queen Elizabeth II, according to a YouGov survey which recorded 99 percent of UK residents that took it having heard of him - compared to the 98 percent who knew of Her Majesty.

The Oldhamer co-hosted This Morning on ITV for more than 20 years before stepping down in May following an alleged off-air rift with fellow presenter Holly Willoughby.

Just a week later he left ITV completely after it was revealed he had an affair with a younger male colleague.

The scandal has had a clear impact on his popularity with him coming in at joint-1,308th in the popularity listing, out of 2,658 celebrities - including footballer Kylian Mbappe who due to an error was not ranked.

The data is collated from those that were interviewed during the fourth quarter of 2023 (October to December), and the popularity ranking is based on the percentage of people who have a positive opinion on the celebrity.

Despite the negative press the 61-year-old received last year, 30 percent of people had a positive opinion of him - the same as ex-footballer John Terry, rapper Jay Z, Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer. While mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, also of Labour, ranked a percentage lower at joint-1,368th.

According to those that were interviewed, the most popular man on the planet is Sir David Attenborough - who was also the joint-second most famous - with 86 percent of participants having a positive opinion on him, while veteran Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman was the least with just two percent.

Topping the fame list was Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who every participant knew of, with Swedish Artists Neiked ranked least famous as only 11 percent of people had heard of them - despite boasting 4million monthly listeners on Spotify and their top two songs having been streamed more than 880million times on the platform.

Meanwhile, of the other Oldham celebrities who made the list Professor Brian Cox was the most famous ranking at 603rd, followed by former Radio One presenter Nick Grimshaw in 700th, Ashton-under-Lyne MP Angela Rayner (who represents Failsworth) at 893rd, BAFTA-winning actress Suranne Jones 1,184th, and Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon came 2,593rd.

While the prince's uncle Prince Andrew also made the list coming in at 99th most famous but ranking 2,512th in the popularity contest - with eight percent of people having a positive opinion on him.

Notably, former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored the most goals in football history with 877 recorded, was 200th on the fame list.
