A campsite in Oldham is up for sale for £700,000.

Hawthorne Caravan & Camp Site, in Lees, has been listed on Daltons Business by property experts Everard Cole.

Owner Steven Jackson said: "It's a good business with a campsite and we also have rooms that we rent out on Booking.com, a lot of our customers are people coming to visit Oldham or Manchester if there's a wedding, a funeral or stuff like that.

"We get a lot of people here because Manchester is a big pull and there's very few campsites in the Manchester area, meaning there's not a lot of choice."

The site has 0.77 acres, enough to fit 15 hard standing caravans with a one bed flat and seven ensuite letting rooms - refurbished in 2019.

The listing states there is the potential to create a food and drink trade on the land, and it may appeal to housing developers too.

Originally from Ashton, Steven has called Roundthorn Road home for 15 years and is only selling to fund his retirement.

He said the business did face a nearby eyesore in the derelict Dog and Partridge facing his site but that it is "much more than a campsite".

He told The Oldham Times: "If you look across the road from me there's a pub that's been bought by a firm."

He said it had been destroyed by a fire and has since been demolished.

Steven added: "Right across from me I've got a dump with a fence around it, so it is very hard to say Oldham is beautiful because Oldham is not a beautiful town anymore."

He continued: "The countryside is alright if you get through Lees and into Saddleworth, but Oldham as a town is not my cup of tea.

"It's just one of those things, it's like you buy a house that you see because you like it but the surroundings might not be so nice.

"It was pretty rural with not many houses on the street - I didn't know it was going to make a campsite but it just worked out like that."

Steven said he plans to move overseas once he sells the business.
