THREE swimmers from Oldham Leisure Centre competed in the British Swimming Championships in Edinburgh last week.
Molly Roodhouse, Jessica Calderbank and Callum Quigley all took part, while a fourth — Luke Kearslake, who also qualified — was unfortunate to miss out when he was stranded in Newcastle due to travel problems caused by the atrocious weather.
They are Oldham’s first group to qualify since Jessica Lloyd and Jessica Fullalove, pre-London 2012.
Roodhouse, 19, did the 400m individual medley in a time of 5:08.16.
Quigley, 20, swam the 50m fly and 50m free and posted his fastest times since April, 2017 — 26.55 in the fly and 24.66 in the free. Calderbank, 21, finished half a second away from a personal best in the 100m fly with a time of 1:03.66.
Roodhouse raced the 100m breaststroke in 1:16.33. She doubled up to do the 200m breaststroke and swam 2:38.46, her quickest since August, 2017. Her final race was the 50m fly which Calderbank also swam — the latter finishing in a time of 28.45 compared with Roodhouse’s 29.56.
