Liam Hogan is set for another season at Boundary Park after triggering a contract extension.

The Latics captain signed a two-year deal under former boss John Sheridan in the summer of 2022, with a third year pencilled into the agreement based on appearances.

The Oldham Times understands the number of starts was specified in the clause, and Hogan has now surpassed the target.

The former Salford and Stockport County centre half has only missed three games this season, all through suspension - one for two bookable offences after being sent off at Fylde in October, and a two-match ban for accumulated bookings.

After he returned from his first suspension, he was named on the bench for the FA Cup first round proper tie at Newport County, coming on for Brennan Dickenson in the 34th minute.

Hogan was then a second half substitute in Latics' 4-1 win at Barnet, and again as Oldham lost by the same scoreline at home to Ebbsfleet just four days later.

The 35-year-old, who has previously captained Salford and Stockport to promotion, was restored to the starting XI for the 3-2 win at Solihull in mid-December and has remained there ever since, barring suspension.

Since signing for Latics, Hogan has made more than 70 appearances in all competitions, including 68 starts in the National League.
