AFTER a ten-try drubbing of Rochdale Hornets, Roughyeds boss Sean Long insisted there was more to come from his men, writes Kasey Smith.

Oldham went past the 100-point milestone mark with a thrilling try by Adam Lawton, moments before the final hooter.

The victory means Roughyeds are two from two with only three tries conceded against their promotion rivals, Workington and Rochdale.

Sunday’s 54-6 win was Oldham’s most convincing to date, with four tries scored in the final 15 minutes – something the Roughyeds boss was most pleased about.

“I asked for an 80 minute performance and I certainly got that,” said Long.

“We conceded one early doors, when we were a little bit scratchy in our system, but after that we knuckled down and played some decent rugby.

“There are improvements we can make, I’m pleased with the start we’ve made and we’re getting better each week.

“There were moments in the second half, when we were down to 12 men, where we could have leaked a couple of tries, but we kept them out.”

Roughyeds were bolstered by the return of Craig Kopczak, who was a thorn in the Hornets side with him regularly making metres up the centre of the field.

“Kopy was outstanding,” said Long. “He led from the front on Sunday – you can’t really name one standout performer, because everybody did well but it does help the team when you’ve got somebody like Kopy in.”

There were concerns for wingers Mo Agoro and Ben O’Keefe who both limped off in the closing stages of the game.

After the game, Agoro played down his injury insisting he would be okay for the Hunslet game.

Long confirmed he would seek the advice of his medical staff during the week to understand the extent of the injuries.

“Mo was limping a bit, so I took the decision to get him off as soon as possible,” he explained.

“I’m not sure what happened with Ben, I think it was his knee, so we will get that scanned.”
