Halifax Town are unable to host tomorrow night's game against Oldham Athletic after the pitch at The Shay Stadium today failed a pitch inspection.

The crunch clash in the race for the National League play-offs is now up in the air, with Halifax looking to secure an alternative venue to host the game.

But if the host club falls outside of the West Yorkshire area it will be dependent on police staffing levels, with 1,400 travelling fans to consider.

A statement from Latics read: "The pitch at the Shay has today failed an inspection ahead of the National League fixture on Wednesday 10 April.

"The game will therefore not take place as scheduled at Halifax.

"We have been advised by Halifax that they are currently looking at workable solutions in order to play the fixture as soon as possible. This includes the possibility of finding an alternative venue tomorrow.

"The club is now waiting on further advices from Halifax, the National League and the Police.

"We are informed by Halifax that a further update is expected later today."

It is the second time this season that this fixture has fallen foul of the weather.

A statement from Halifax read: "Tomorrow night's game against

Oldham Athletic has been postponed following a pitch inspection due to a waterlogged pitch.

"Firstly we sincerely apologise to both sets of fans. We are working in consultation with Oldham Athletic, the Police and Third Parties to find other workable solutions to get this fixture played asap including tomorrow night at an alternative venue.

"There will be a further update later today."
