IT was the Cian Tyrer show as the winger ran riot at the South Leeds Stadium, scoring six tries leading Roughyeds to a decisive 62-0 win over Hunslet, writes Kasey Smith.

Gametime has been hard to come by for Tyrer, who returned from a two-week loan spell at Workington, but today’s performance has certainly given boss Sean Long some serious selection headaches.

He was only in the side because wingers Ben O’Keefe and Mo Agoro were both injured, but he made up for lost time with his six tries propelling him to the top of the League One try-scoring charts.

Credit has to go to his centre, Jordan Turner, who was sublime in laying the platform for Tyrer down that left edge.

Hunslet could not cope with the size and power of Oldham’s middles, in particular Adam Lawton and Craig Kopczak, who gave Dean Muir’s men a torrid afternoon.

Conscious of the bright start Hunslet made in last week’s loss to Keighley, Roughyeds came to the South Leeds Stadium determined to avoid a potential banana skin.

It took Oldham barely two minutes to take the lead – a lead which never looked like swaying towards Hunslet, who offered very little going forward.

Tyrer’s first came after Alfie Goddard failed to deal with Danny Craven’s high-hanging kick and Tyrer pounced on the loose ball to score.

Then, what seemed to be a messy end to the Oldham set of six, Astley took control and hit a grubber into space for Tyrer to score from.

After Kopczak and Lawton linked up well to force a line-break, the ball was shifted left where Jordan Turner set Tyrer away, as he completed his hat-trick after just 23 minutes.

Then, a massive hit by Joe Wardle forced Hunslet to knock on in their own half, which resulted in another Tyrer try when he danced his way past defenders to ground the ball.

Rather than consolidate their advantage in the second forty, Oldham decided to go for the jugular, and they scored again, three minutes after the break, through Tyrer again – the only try which Jamie Ellis failed to convert.

There was barely a moment to catch breath before Tyrer got his sixth which Craven converted with Ellis off for a breather.

Next up, it was Adam Lawton who used his power to force his way through the weak Hunslet defence, which made it 40-0 with Craven’s conversion.

Making his debut off the bench, Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e shot off down the right wing to score another try which Craven converted, after some quick-paced accurate passing.

Kian Morgan got Oldham’s ninth after he brushed aside full-back Jimmy Watson to score a try which Craven failed to convert.

In the final ten minutes, there was time for two Logan Astley tries – both of which were converted by Cian Tyrer who was not content with just 24 points.

After three big Oldham wins, who are averaging over 50 points scored a game, who will lift the League One title is already looking like a foregone conclusion.
