ROUGHYEDS were dealt with another injury blow on Sunday with captain Jordan Turner facing a spell on the sidelines, writes Kasey Smith.

Turner became the latest player to be struck down by injury after he limped off late on in Oldham’s 46-10 win over Cornwall.

Boss Sean Long explained after the game that the 35-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury, with the full extent of the damage done yet to be assessed by the club’s medical staff.

Though Long was hopeful it was not as serious as the one which kept Elijah Taylor out for over a month.

“Jordan will be out for a few weeks,” Long confirmed. “It disrupted us a little bit when he was forced off, because we had to put Brad (Gallagher) in his place and then (Jordan) Paga had a spell there too.

“JT talks well and he leads from the front – I can always hear him barking orders on the field when I’m in the stands.

“He has been really good and will be a massive loss for us going forward, but I’m hopeful he may only be out for two to three weeks, but we won’t know until he gets scanned.”

Long felt Roughyeds let their standards slip against Cornwall, despite the club extending their lead at the top of League One after Sunday’s win.

“They came with real intent,” the Roughyeds boss said. “They wanted to knock us off our perch and spoil the party; they had a crack at us.

“Our completion rate was poor compared to last week and, if I’m being honest, I thought we dropped our standards.

“If we think we’re going to win by 60 points every week, then we have got another thing coming.

“The lads are doing all the right things but we know we can get better each week – if people think we’re the finished article, we’re not.”
