WORK is continuing at the Foxdenton development site in Chadderton with drainage and earth moving taking place.

The development will see up to 500 new homes and 700,000 sq ft of employment land created at land off Foxdenton Lane.

Named "Broadway Green", the £100million proposal was given planning permission in 2014 and work on a new link road through the development site, joining Broadway and Foxdenton Lane commenced last year.

In the latest update from developers FO Developments LLP, it was confirmed that work is continuing on site at the Foxdenton Lane entrance and the Redrow Homes plot, where 97 new family homes will be built.

In an update to the public, the developers said: "Following our return from the Christmas shutdown period, we continue to progress the drainage, earth moving operations and material selection and processing.

"Work to remodel the road at the Foxdenton site entrance have recommenced with the Traffic management being reinstalled following its removal over the Christmas period.

"Up and coming works focus on the continuation of the earth moving operation to the Redrow Homes plot, the highway construction and completion of the drainage operations.

"It is anticipated that works install the initial road and sewers on the Redrow development should commence within first quarter of this year."

The development has proved controversial with local residents voicing strong opposition to the plans throughout the planning process.

The residents cited problems with traffic, a loss of green space and the lack of infrastructure such as school places and GP surgeries in the area to accomodate new homes.

The development is also expected to create around 2,000 new jobs and will feature a 25 acre park.
