A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has been arrested after a teenager suffered serious injuries in a stabbing near Oldham town yesterday afternoon.

The female victim was attacked at 4.15pm, on West End Street, and was taken to hospital where she remains for treatment, say police.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said they were called to attend to a female patient in her teens and she was taken to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

An area around shops at the junction with Chadderton Way was cordoned off while officers carried out investigations at the crime scene.

An image on Facebook page Oldham News & Media showed police patrolling the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said a 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

They say at this stage officers are treating it as an isolated incident and believe it bears no wider risk to the local community.

They are due to release an update sometime today.

Sada Khan, owner of Desi Cakes and Shakes cafe, which is opposite where the stabbing took place said: "This has made me feel scared.

"You hear about these types of things happening in places like London but for it to happen here and for it to involved such young people with knives. It's horrible.

"The whole community is shocked it could happen here."
