A COSTUME parade that was inspired by an iconic film of the 80s will take place in Saddleworth later this summer.

The ‘Yanks’ parade, named after the movie of the same name, will see hundreds of fans dress up in period costume for a weekend of fun-filled activities during the weekend of August 11-12.

The event is popular with current and former members of the armed forces community, and this year the revellers are hoping to raise key funds for the military charity Help for Heroes.

Register volunteers from the charity will be walking alongside the parade with collection buckets, and those attending will receive small union jacks and wrist bands.

Other Help for Heroes accessories will also be on sale to help boost funds

Lesley Marshall, who takes part in the Yanks parade and is also a volunteer, said there will be banners and flags proudly displaying local support for the Armed Forces.

She said: “It is such an exciting and fun event and a very happy occasion.

“The whole purpose of the day is also to spread the word that the charity is there for current servicemen and women and veterans of all ages.”
