THE revolving door at Boundary Park brought an additional shock for Latics fans when the club showed the door to Anthony Gerrard for gross misconduct.

In a statement put out this afternoon, the club confirmed that Gerrard who had played a total of 69 games in two spells at the club since 2015, has had his contract terminated with immediate effect.

His sacking is alleged to relate to him allegedly telling a fan to "go throw s***e at yourself pal" on social media.

The statement read: “Oldham Athletic can confirm the club have terminated the contract of Anthony Gerrard.

“His contract was terminated for gross misconduct arising from certain social media posts which brought the club into disrepute.

“In accordance with Anthony Gerrard’s contract and Football League procedure, he had 14 days to appeal the decision, no appeal was lodged.

“As a result his contract with the club has now ended.”

The cousin of former Liverpool player and now manager of Rangers Steven Gerrard, Anthony took to social media to respond saying: “I think everyone has heard the news regarding myself and OAFC, when I feel the time is right I’ll give my thoughts on it ALL!

“Can’t wait to get back playing with @officialcufc and looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

The firing of Gerrard on transfer deadline day lead to him signing a one year contract with Carlisle United.
