INTERESTED in finding out more about the borough's long and colourful past?

Then why not join the next session of Oldham Local History Community Group which starts on September 20.

The friendly group meets from 7-9 pm on Thursday evenings at Werneth Park Study Centre and will hold 10 gatherings before Christmas and another 10 after into the new year.

The course will be led by group stalwart and historian by John Fidler, now in his 33rd season.

Over the years he's delivered 640 lessons without missing a single one!

John's first topic will focus on Dame Sarah Lees and her daughter Marjory - noted as Oldham's very own 'royal family' - and their contribution to the struggle for women's suffrage.

Class fees are £80 for the first 10 weeks - which includes the centre membership fee and a reduced price for the second session.

Organiser Stuart Paulley says new members are most welcome and is a social occasion as well as an opportunity to hear about fascinating aspects of Oldham's history.
