A TECH firm turned it's anniversary into a worthy celebration to highlight World Alzheimer’s Month.

Aspect IT staged a charity football match against fellow Oldham-based business, Web Applications UK, to raise cash for the Alzheimer’s Society - a cause close to the heart of co-director, Ian Howarth, whose family was recently affected by the disease.

Aspect IT, which recently celebrated its 15th year in business, donated £15 for every goal its team scored.

They won 14-9, raising a total of £400 including donations from the local business community, family and friends.

The charity provides vital support to people with dementia and World Alzheimer's Month is an international campaign which takes place every September to raise awareness and challenge the stigma that surrounds dementia.

Director Peter Dorotiak said: “The match was a great success. We raised more than we anticipated and we were able to celebrate our 15th birthday as a team, doing something we all enjoy.

"Alzheimer’s Society is a fantastic charity and we’re so pleased we could do our bit to support them."

Steph Potts, community fundraiser at Alzheimer’s Society in Greater Manchester, added: “We are so grateful that Aspect IT and Web Applications UK have united against dementia on the football pitch this World Alzheimer’s Month.

"Fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society is not only a brilliant way to boost staff morale and engage other business but of course it is for the benefit of people living with dementia.

“Without support from people like Aspect IT we simply wouldn’t be here for the 30,000 people living with dementia in Greater Manchester alone. Supporting them to live as well as possible through our research programmes, local services and campaigning.”

Aspect IT provides IT services including web design, software development and IT support to small and medium sized businesses in the Greater Manchester region.

Donations for the event can still be given through Aspect IT’s Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/aspectit.
