FAMILIES who have lost a baby through stillbirth or shortly after birth have been invited to a special Baby Memorial Service at The Royal Oldham Hospital taking place on Thursday (October 11).

The service will be held in the Education Centre at the hospital at 7pm and the hospital’s Spiritual Care Team welcome all who wish to attend.

The Baby Memorial Service, which lasts for up to 45 minutes, will offer families a chance to pause, reflect and remember all the babies who have been sadly lost.

Rev Ian Inglis, chaplaincy co-ordinator at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said:

“The baby memorial service is a chance for anyone who has lost a child to pause, reflect and remember in the company of other families who have experienced loss themselves.

“Music, readings and poems and a couple of prayers combine with the reading of the names of those babies that people have come to remember. For some it is a religious service, for others it is spiritual and for others, it is reflective – how people participate is up to them.”

Refreshments will be served after the service.

Anyone who would like further details on the memorial service should contact the chaplaincy and spiritual care team at The Royal Oldham Hospital on 0161 627 8796.
