Oldham Library is celebrating World Mental Health Day 2018 today (October 10).

As well promoting awareness of mental health issues there will be displays and presentations with residents invited to attend from 9.30am onwards.

The event, organised jointly by the library service and the Open Shutters Project, will include presentations by Studio G Photography, Relax Kids, Clear Mind Counselling and musician/mental health advocate Aiden Hatfield.

There will be a health marketplace, with Pearson Legal, Tameside Oldham, Glossop Mind and Healthy Minds on hand to give information and advice about health and wellbeing.

Healthy Minds will also be presenting a short play throughout the day.

The event runs alongside the Open Shutters exhibition in Gallery Oldham, a collection of 32 photographic portraits celebrating people who have taken strength and positivity from their mental health journeys. The exhibition runs until November 10.

Councillor Paul Jacques, Cabinet Member for Education and Culture said: “Mental illness affects one in four of us at some point in our lives.

“World Mental Health Day is important in raising awareness and signposting people to the help and support that’s available when people are in need.

“We’re very pleased to be able to host this event at Oldham Library and the Open Shutters exhibition in Gallery Oldham.”

World Mental Health Day is organised by the World Health organisation and aims to raise awareness around mental health issues.
