LOCAL people are being urged to create a “carpet of poppies” in Crompton Park.
Phelyp Bennett, the organiser of Crompton Remembrance Parade and Service, has installed a piece of mesh in the memorial cross garden to encourage the public to leave the poppies in the build up to November 11.
Mr Bennett is part of the Shaw branch of The Royal British Legion, based in Newtown Street, in a former Methodist mission hall since 1933.
“We’re trying to encourage people to remember fallen service personnel for more than just a week in November,” he said.
“It would great if the public helped create a carpet of poppies in mesh I have put at the memorial cross garden.”
