ONLINE retailer Shop Direct has announced a further 50 job cuts six months after announcing plans to axe nearly 2,000 jobs across its sites in Oldham and Salford.

The company, which also owns Very.co.uk and Littlewoods.com, has now unveiled plans to end its operations at two Bolton mills, shutting its head office in Orlando Street and a distribution centre in Blackshaw Lane.

In April, the Liverpool firm announced plans to close its national distribution centre at Linney Lane, Shaw, and the returns facility at Raven Mill, Chadderton and others at Little Hulton in Salford. They will relocate to the East Midlands.

The new cuts have been prompted, bosses say, because the current system of clearing unsold items is registering a loss for the company and it will instead sell the stock through a third party.
